Eco-friendly Applications
Catering to the environment will be an important value that Pandora World seeks to protect. To do so, an environmental management system will be implemented. The environmental management system includes an energy savings plan where all electricity is measure and reduced whenever possible; a management plan for liquid and solid waste generated in parks; a water saving plan that involves water-saving taps, urinals, and toilets; and a response plan for the care and management of potential spills.
Through interactive games and entertainment shows, guests will be able to learn about conservation and the importance of preserving the world’s natural resources. Pandora World will understand that the youth is going to be our future, therefore, it will cater to this demographic. The new theme park will offer a number of all-age, family centric experiences, activities, and exhibitions that are designed to empower and educate the youth about the environment.
Wind Turbine Ferris Wheel
Pandora World calls for the implementation of one of the first wind turbine Ferris wheels to generate electricity to the rest of the park. When the Ferris wheel is inactive, there will settings that will allow the wheel the spin and produce electricity using the wind. When the Ferris wheel is used as ride, control settings will be turned on to prevent the wheel from spinning because of the wind. However, its motion, which will be powered by hydropower or solar panels, will continue generating electricity for the park. It is essentially a new type of turbine where the crosses within the web of the wheel act as a blade surrounding a ring-shipped structure called a shaft. As the shaft spins due to the wind or motion of the ride, the generator will produce electricity.
Solar Panels and Hydropower
Florida’s geographical location and warm seasonal temperatures makes the usage of solar panels an ideal alternative for producing clean, renewable energy. Pandora World’s plans involves the installation of solar photovoltaic panels on the roofs and walkways of the park. The energy generated by the solar panels is expected to meet 50% of the park’s needs during the peak summer months when sunlight is the brightest.4
Pandora World will also utilize the nearby Discovery River to create a man-made waterfall that is not only aesthetically pleasing, but will capture the energy to produce hydroelectric power for the park. The kinetic energy from the water will be used to spin the turbine, which will activate a generator to produce enough electricity for the park.
Design and Features!
Pandora World will incorporate energy efficient technology and creative applications to bring the culture of Pandora to life. It will illustrate Disney’s futuristic vision to improve the overall human relationship to nature. A few iconic elements form the movie that will be featured in the theme park will include the majestic floating mountains, bioluminescent forest, and the soaring banshees. Guests will experience a nighttime jungle of bioluminescent plants that will be brought to life with flickering lights and sounds of nature.
The transition to these environmentally friendlier application and sources will be very feasible because of Walt Disney World’s energy management program (EMP), which has had profound effects on energy and cost savings. The result of this success is because of Disney EMP’s strong partnership with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) through the EPA Energy Star Buildings program. This program is comprised of 5 main components: building tune-up, energy-efficient lighting, load reductions, fan-system upgrades, and heating and cooling system upgrades. Through this partnership with EPA and a “greener” park design, electrical and cost savings can be optimized for Pandora World. These cleaner energy methods will be utilized to recreate the bioluminescent world of Pandora and bring its plants and animals to life.
